RULE 43-

SETTING OUT, PICKING UP OR CHANGING ENGINES

 

Head brakeman assisting road engineer in picking up or setting out units of diesel power or changing diesel engines will be paid an arbitrary allowance of one hour for each such pickup, setout or engine change made, in addition to all other time on the trip.

 

The foregoing payment will not be made to brakemen assisting in making engine changes for any or all of the following reasons:

 

(1) When exchange is due to failure of their own engines;

 

(2) When called and used on a trip, the exclusive purpose of which is to accomplish an exchange of engines;

 

(3) To brakemen in work train service;

 

(4) When tying up at outside points and engine exchange is made during off‑duty time of brakeman;

 

(5) When changing from one train to another at meeting points or at points between terminals;

 

(6) When exchanging engine of their own train at points where yard crews are employed.

 

The conductor will be paid the arbitrary allowance paid to the brakeman member of his crew who assists in the work.
